FOX picked up J.J. Abrams’ series Almost Human yesterday, and NBC today announced they’ve ordered his Believe to series. Here’s what we know:

- FOX has ordered Gang Related (with Terry O’Quinn) to series. (Synopsis: A gritty new action drama, follows Ryan Lopez (Ramon Rodriguez), a rising star in Los Angeles’ elite Gang Task Force – led by Sam Chapel (Emmy Award winner Terry O’Quinn) — who teams up with longtime Task Force member Cassius Green (RZA) to take on three of the city’s most dangerous gangs, including one he has ties to.)
- FOX has ordered Almost Human (previously Human, the untitled Bad Robot/J.H. Wyman project) to series. (Synopsis: An action-packed buddy cop drama, set in the near future, when all LAPD officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids.)

J.J. Abrams To Direct New ‘Star Wars’ Movie For Disney
Star Trek director J.J. Abrams will be helming the next Star Wars movie. “It’s done deal with J.J.,” a source with knowledge of the situation told Deadline today. Argo director Ben Affleck was also up for the gig, the source says. Expected in 2015, Abrams’ Episode VII effort will be the first new Star Wars movie since 2005′s Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith. Michael Arndt is writing the script for the first installment of the relaunch of George Lucas’ franchise by Disney.
Abrams had previously declined the offer: “I quickly said that because of my loyalty to Star Trek, and also just being a fan, I wouldn’t even want to be involved in the next version of those things. I declined any involvement very early on. I’d rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them.”
J.J. Abrams named MIT Media Lab Fellow
Joi Ito, director of MIT’s Media Lab, announced the creation of a new type of fellowship, the Director’s Fellows, designed to involve individuals with “less-than-traditional backgrounds” in the innovative work the Lab is doing, and the first class is quite impressive, including the likes of chess grandmaster Maurice Ashley and director J.J. Abrams.
“Our new Director’s Fellows initiative creates a way for these extraordinary individuals to take part in Media Lab research alongside our faculty and students,” Ito wrote in a blog post introducing the fellows. “We’re bringing a cohort of characters from a broad range of sectors and geographies to join us in doing collaborative research and to expand our growing global community. The fellows will not only work with the Lab’s students and faculty, but also with each other.”
