J.J. Abrams named MIT Media Lab Fellow

Joi Ito, director of MIT’s Media Lab, announced the creation of a new type of fellowship, the Director’s Fellows, designed to involve individuals with “less-than-traditional backgrounds” in the innovative work the Lab is doing, and the first class is quite impressive, including the likes of chess grandmaster Maurice Ashley and director J.J. Abrams.
“Our new Director’s Fellows initiative creates a way for these extraordinary individuals to take part in Media Lab research alongside our faculty and students,” Ito wrote in a blog post introducing the fellows. “We’re bringing a cohort of characters from a broad range of sectors and geographies to join us in doing collaborative research and to expand our growing global community. The fellows will not only work with the Lab’s students and faculty, but also with each other.”

J.J. was here in November for a conversation at the Lab, you can watch all 86 minutes of it it here.

I went to the Museum of Fine Arts here in Boston over the weekend, and since I’m fascinated by anything Egyptian, I checked out that section of the museum and and saw some LOST-related items!

Come to the Boston FuckYeahLOST meetup!

The Fenway Regal theatre is showing the live broadcast of the TimesTalks event with Darlton live from NYC at 8 PM. Let’s get together before (and maybe after!) and hang out!

Interested? Check out the Facebook event!
Get your tickets to the show now on Fandango!

If you think there’s at least a good chance that you’d attend a meetup, please click attending, and then depending on the size of the group, I’ll figure out where we can meet.

Additionally, if you’d be interested in hosting the event (and have a T accessible place that would comfortable host however many people plan on coming) please send me a message or write on the wall below and let me know or make suggestions! If not, we can always meet at a restaurant or bar!

I hope a lot of you guys are interested in coming out, it’d be awesome to get to meet as many people as possible!
