Fuckyeahlost.com interviews Mr. Paul Scheer!

First of all, introduce yourself! Who are you, what do you do, and where can we find you on the interweb?
Hi! My name is Paul Scheer. You might know me from MTV’s Human Giant or FX’s THE LEAGUE. I’ve also been on 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, Yo Gabba Gabba and Best Week Ever.
I have a twitter @paulscheer and  a website paulscheer.com.
I’m commonly know as the inventor of the Twinkie.

Now, let’s talk about LOST! How did you get into the show? Did it click right away, and if not what was it that made that click happen?
I’ve been in from the beginning. I was a big JJ fan from Alias so that originally roped me in and then I remember seeing these MISSING posters all over NYC each highlighting a character from the show and I was intrigued. I loved it from Day 1.

We all watched you at the Comic-Con LOST panel, how did that (and the whole DamonCarltonandaPolarBear site/art series) come about? How was the experience as a whole?
Damon and I had met a year earlier at Comic Con. He liked Human Giant and I liked Lost, so we kinda connected on the mutual admiration thing. The following year I got a call that Damon wanted me to do a bit in the comic con panel. They teamed me up with Jensen Karp who owns Gallery 1988. He masterminded this amazing LOST ART PROJECT and we collaborated on my involvement with it.
It was an awesome experience to work so closely with a show that I’m a huge fan of and I also made some really nice friends in the process.
They also let me push the donkey wheel and I sent a writer’s assistant to Tunisia.

What do you think was the most shocking moment in the shows history?
The reveal that Locke was in a wheel chair was pretty huge I think that will go down as an ultimate WTF moment. Another great moment was the “WE’VE GOT TO GO BACK” reveal in the Season 3 finale.

Where do you stand on Team Jack/Team Locke; Ben/Widmore; Jacob/MIB?
I’m on Team Locke, Team Ben and Team MIB. I guess I like the bad guys.
I’m also firmly on team Frogurt.

Have you ever had a theory that seemed crazy at the time but turned out to be true?
No. My theories are way too complicated to come to fruitition. My current theory is that the sideways timelines are the show’s epilogue, basically we are seeing what has happened after they all get off the island. But I’m sure I’m wrong.

Favorite character and why? Least favorite character and why?
That’s hard but I think Locke. He’s amazing and out of all the characters he’s had the most interesting twists and turns. You have really seen him grow and change and now he’s not even Locke. He’s really had a full evolution. 2nd place goes to Ben.
Least favorite, I never really liked Ana Lucia.

Favorite season and/or episode and why? Least favorite season and/or episode and why?
Season 1 was amazing top to bottom. It was really exciting storytelling. But I also loved the time travel season too because you never saw anything that dense on TV before. This season is fullfiling for a whole slew of different reasons. I think I really love that they try something very different with their story telling every year.
I think I was a little frustrated in season 2 or 3 when the characters were being held prisoner on the other island. The whole thing where Sawyer was in the bear cage - that wasn’t my favorite part of the show.

If you had to have one character who is still alive die, who would it be and why?
I feel like Ben’s death would be amazing because I’m sure he’d go out either helping or hurting someone and it would finally solidify the type of person he is.

What moment made you the happiest?
I loved the reveal of Desmond in the hatch with the Mamma and Poppa’s song. That was awesome.

Which characters death hit you the hardest?
Charlie Dying was a bummer. But the benefit of LOST is that characters have a interesting way of coming back. So it’s not as bad as a show like Buffy or Deadwood when characters really died.

What has been your favorite part of the entire experience of the show?
Hmm. That’s a tough question. I guess the post show research. Reading the blogs, examining the screencaps…Generally wasting time to figure something out that isn’t important to anything in the real world.

What would be the perfect way for the show to end, in your opinion?
I’d love the whole show to be Vincent’s dream.  I actually think the show will end with Jack and Locke sitting on the beach like Jacob and the Man in Black contemplating testing another group of people.
