I posted this on my blog already, but I had to share it with you guys as well.

I saw Michael Emerson speak at URI last night. He’s just as adorable and funny and humble and down to Earth as he’s always seemed to be. He talked about growing up in Iowa and how he got into acting and his time on LOST. He was really engaging and seemed so happy to be there answering our questions.

Meeting him after was fantastic. I told him my name was Crit and he asked “spelled…C-R-I-T?” and I said “yeah!” so he wrote “TO CRIT” and signed my ticket. I told him I had a little website called fuckyeahlost and asked him to write that, and he said “like…fuck YEAH?” (which, in his voice, was really hilarious) and laughed. He then wrote FUCKYEAH.COM! exclamation point and all. You can see that here.

He told the story about the time during season two when he still had no idea how long he’d be on the show and was expecting to get a script where he’d find out that “Henry Gale” had been killed off, and the director came to him and told him that when he talks about the leader of the Others, to make sure to make it sound like he was the scariest, meanest person in the world. Michael then asked him “wouldn’t it be cool if I ended up being the leader of the Others?” The director paused for a moment, blinked, and then said “I can’t discuss that” before walking away.

In between his opening speech and the Q&A session, he played some of his favorite clips from the show. He picked the “we have to back” scene, Sawyer and Juliet’s bloody underground scene from the beginning of season six, and the scene where Ben goes to Widmore’s bedroom and tells him he’s going to kill Penny. At another point, he also played a montage of clips of him getting beaten up.

His advice for those who want to be filmmakers: do it. Shoot it now. He told someone who asked that we (the audience) are all lucky to be living in the time that we do. There’s nothing stopping anyone from shooting the film on a flip cam or even on a cell phone. If you have ideas, put them into action.
